Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], August 4 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan visited the house of Arjun, a lorry driver who went missing in the landslide at Shirur, Karnataka, on Sunday.
The Kerala CM also sent a letter to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, requesting the resumption of the search operation for Arjun.
“Dear Siddaramaiah ji, today, I visited the family of Arjun, who went missing in the Shirur district of Karnataka. I write this to share the anxiety and sorrow of Arjun’s family, as he has been missing for quite a long time. I understand that the search operations to find Arjun were to be resumed today. However, information indicates that the operations have not yet resumed. I request your kind personal intervention for the resumption of the search operations today itself,” CM Vijayan wrote in the letter.
“Wrote to Karnataka CM @siddaramaiah Ji to share the anxiety and sorrow of Arjun’s family, who went missing in the Shirur district of Karnataka. Requested his intervention for the resumption of the search operations, which were scheduled to restart today but have not yet begun,” CM Vijayan wrote in a post on X.
As heavy rainfall led to massive devastation in southern India, Arjun, a lorry driver from Kerala travelling from Ankola to Kerala, went missing on July 16.
The search and rescue operations in Kerala’s Wayanad entered their sixth day on Sunday, as several people are still feared trapped in the debris after a series of landslides in Chooralmala and Mundakkai, Wayanad.
Providing details about the rescue operation, Wayanad District Collector Meghashree told ANI that the rescue operation is in full swing, with over 1,300 forces deployed today.
“The rescue operation is in full swing. Today, 1,300+ forces are deployed, and volunteers are also present. Yesterday, volunteers who went for the rescue operation got stranded. Today, we are taking precautions to prevent that from happening,” the Wayanad District Collector told ANI. (ANI)
