Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 16 (ANI): Former Principal of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, Prof (Dr) Sandip Ghosh on Friday approached Calcutta High Court seeking protection, claiming that he has been receiving life threats.
The Court has asked the State government to provide him with police protection.
The court has asked his counsel to file a separate affidavit if anything else needs to be mentioned or any other claims.
Sandip Ghosh resigned from the position of principal at RG Kar Medical College on Monday alleging that he was being defamed on social media platforms following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the hospital premises.
The Chief Justice division bench of the Calcutta HC was considering several PILs in the matter on Tuesday. During the hearing, the Chief Justice questioned the appointment of the former principal.
This came after Ghosh’s appointment as principal of Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata immediately after his resignation triggered protests.
Meanwhile, amid heightened tensions in Kolkata, Suhrita Pal, the newly appointed Principal of the Medical College lost her cool and urged the people to trust her.
Protesting doctors mounted pressure on the newly appointed principal, Suhrita Pal to take action against the midnight mob attack and fulfil the demands of the medical students and doctors.
