Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], September 28 (ANI): Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh hit out at the BJP over allegations that the TMC protects the Rohingyas and not people of other states after Bihar students were assaulted in West Bengal and said that the border is under BSF and the responsibility is of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to stop infiltration.
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said, “Regarding the Rohingyas, from where are they coming? How they are crossing the border? The border is under BSF and the responsibility is of Union HM Amit Shah…Before making any allegation about Rohingyas. They should criticise the Central government and Amit Shah’s department. Regarding this issue, we are friendly to everybody. From our state, our youths are going to different states and youth from other states are coming to our state. The incident has taken place. Police are looking after it.”
He said that from the border line till 50 km, all the areas are under the jurisdiction of the central government and Home Ministry.
Earlier, the Bagdogra police under Siliguri Police Commemorate arrested two people for allegedly threatening and harassing two young men who came to Siliguri from Bihar to attend an exam.
The accused have been identified as Rajat Bhattacharya and Giridhari Roy-residents of West Bengal’s Siliguri are known to be linked to Bangla Pokkho, a pro-Bengali advocacy organisation.
The incident came to light after a video of the youth went viral on social media, gaining widespread condemnation.
In the video that has gone viral, the youth can be seen sleeping in a room when a group of miscreants entered and asked them whether they could understand Bengali. When one student replied that they couldn’t, the miscreants began questioning them aggressively, claiming they shouldn’t be taking exams in other states.
One of the students attempted to explain that they had been assigned to the Siliguri exam center but was repeatedly asked to show his documents. The group claimed to be from the IB and harassed the youth.
Biswachand Thakur, DCP of Siliguri Police, announced that two accused were arrested by Bagdogra police on Thursday evening following a complaint.
“On the basis of a complaint, two persons were arrested by Bagdogra police on Thursday evening on the charge of threatening and harassing two youths claiming to IB, police officers. Further investigation is underway,” Biswachand Thakur said. (ANI)
