Delhi customs intercept two passengers at IGI airport for alleged gold chain smuggling, iPhones – World News Network

New Delhi [India], October 23 (ANI): Delhi customs intercepted two passengers on Wednesday at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi for an alleged smuggling attempt of 538 grams of gold and four iPhones.
According to officials, the two passengers were carrying Turkmenistan passports and were travelling from Turkmenistan to Delhi by flight number T5-531.
“During x-ray of baggage, strong beep sound was heard in the metal detectors and some suspicious images were noticed. On further examination of the passengers resulted in the recovery of assorted yellow metal jewellery believed to be gold totally weighing 538.00 gram and Four iPhone 16 Pro concealed in two sealed tissue paper pouches,” said Delhi customs.
Earlier, on October 20, Delhi customs detained a passenger for allegedly for allegedly carrying 15 kilograms of hydroponic weed.
The passenger was travelling from Bangkok to Paris via Delhi by flight AI-333 & AI143.
“The officers noticed/detected some narcotic substance (during bag scan). Thereafter, the on duty dog of Customs K9 squad was called for sniffing the baggage. The duty dog indicated presence of narcotics substance. The bags were opened in presence of the said Pax as per the procedure, wherein 15.046 kg of greenish brown substance appearing to be hydroponic weed was recovered from the baggage,” Delhi customs said.
The goods were seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) 1985. The passenger was detained for further questioning by Delhi customs.
In another case on October 1, Delhi customs intercepted a passenger travelling from Honkong to Delhi flight at IGI airport with 26 iPhone 16 pro max.
The customs department at Delhi’s IGI Airport arrested the woman passenger for smuggling the devices concealed in a vanity bag, said officials.
“Based on intelligence, Delhi Airport Customs intercepted a lady passenger travelling from Hongkong to Delhi carrying 26 iPhone 16 Pro Max concealed inside her vanity bag (wrapped in tissue paper),” said customs. (ANI)
