Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], September 9 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu inspected the flood-affected areas in Vijayawada district on Monday.
The Chief Minister met the affected people in the area and assured to do everything possible to help thm build their lives back to normal.
“All the belongings and houses in the flooded areas were damaged. We will send experts to the houses to tend the repair work. We will help repair the vehicles. We will also help you financially. Only after everything is done that will help you get back to normal, you will go from here,” CM Naidu said.
He said that the government will ensure the safety of the citizens along the provision of food and water supplies.
He attributed the current flooding in Vijayawada to the previous government’s neglect in maintaining canals and irrigation projects. “Due to breaches in the Budameru canal, floodwaters reached the city, resulting in waterlogging in several areas,” the Chief Minister said.
The state government has also set-up a medical camp in the area to prevent any diseases from spreading.
Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said, “In every medical camp, two medical officers have been deployed. For the past seven days, an OP of more than lakh has been done. Health Ministry is conducting door-to-door deceased surveys. To contain vector-borne diseases we are conducting house-to-house vector surveillance.”
Several parts of Vijayawada continued to reel under severe waterlogging for the ninth consecutive day on Monday following heavy rainfall in the state. Flood waters have subsided in many areas while few areas still remain flooded. Residents in the affected areas were shifted to relief camps.
Earlier on September 6, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited the flood-affected areas and took stock of the situation.
“Today, I saw the agricultural fields of my farmer brothers and assessed the damage. Farmers’ crops have been fully damaged. There is a 100 per cent loss to Banana, Haldi, Paddy and vegetable crops. Many of the farmers don’t own their own farm land and do farming by borrowing land on lease but they have lost their crops,” Chouhan said after inspection.
The Union Minister announced all cooperation and support from the central government to the state in the time of crisis. (ANI)
