Imphal (Manipur) [India], September 16 (ANI): The Manipur government on Monday restored internet and mobile data services after reviewing the prevailing law and order situation in the state.
The State’s Home Department issued an order lifting the suspension of internet and mobile data services, including VSAT and VPN services, in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching districts. The suspension, which had been extended until September 20, has now been revoked.
The order stated, “Whereas, the State Government, via order No. H3607/4/2022-HD-HD(Pt.) (!) dated September 10, 2024, suspended internet and mobile data services, including Lease Lines, VSAT, broadband and VPN services in the territorial jurisdiction of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching districts of Manipur for five days with effect from 3:00 PM on September 10, 2024, and subsequently extended till 3:00 PM on September 20, 2024, vide an order of even number dated September 15, 2024. Whereas, the State Government reviewed this suspension and conditionally lifted it for Broadband (ILL & FTTH) services via order No. H-1701/181/2023-HD-HD-Part (1) dated September 12, 2024.”
“Whereas, after reviewing the prevailing law and order situation, the State Government has decided to lift the temporary suspension of all internet services in Manipur, which was imposed as a preventive measure in the public interest,” it added.
Previously, the state government had imposed an internet ban starting on September 10 for five days. Although the ban was initially set to end on Sunday, it was extended due to the law and order situation.
On September 13, DIG Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Manish Kumar Sachar visited Thangkanphai village in Kangpokpi district and Songpehjang relief camp in Saikul Hilltown, where he interacted with representatives of the Kuki community.
Speaking to ANI, DIG Sachar mentioned that over 100 families are living in the relief camp and that their only desire is to return to their normal lives. (ANI)
