“CM was in favour of one community and against other”: AIUDF MLA on Himanta’s ‘Miya’ remarks – World News Network

Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 28 (ANI): All India United Democratic Front MLA, Rafiqul Islam slammed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over his “Miya” remarks in the state assembly and said that the CM was in favour of one community and against the other.
The opposition Congress and AIUDF brought an adjournment motion in Assam Assembly on Tuesday to discuss the law and order situation in the state in the backdrop of a 14-year-old minor girl gang rape incident that took place in Dhing area in Nagaon district and a recent incident in Upper Assam.
The AIUDF MLA said, “It is the Chief Minister’s responsibility to ensure the safety and security of the 3.4 crore people of Assam. Unfortunately, while giving a reply, the CM was in favour of one community and against the other. These division tactics will not be tolerated at all. He cannot ask people of one part of the state to not travel to another part.”
Assam Chief Minister said that – “I won’t let Assam become a land of Miyas.” When the opposition MLAs questioned Himanta Biswa Sarma, he said – “Do you want to capture the entire state? Why the people from Lower Assam will go to Upper Assam? I won’t let Assam become a land of Miyas.”
“My request to the Miya-Muslim community is not to forcefully try to settle in indigenous Assamese areas against their will; this will aggravate societal fault lines and be a possible security issue,” the CM further said.
“I am not against Islam, but if Hindus’ land is being snatched away and girls are being tortured, I will not remain silent. And I know that my life may be in danger for this,” Sarma added in a fiery speech in the Assam assembly.
On the other hand, AIUDF MLA Mujibur Rahman said that his party will continue their fight for the rights of the Miya Muslim people.
Earlier, on August 22, a minor girl was allegedly gang-raped in Assam’s Nagaon district, leading to the arrest of two individuals, according to the police. The incident reportedly occurred while the girl was returning home from tuition in the Dhing area.
Locals found the girl in a semi-conscious state by the roadside and immediately admitted her to a hospital. (ANI)
