DUSU elections get underway following High Court’s approval – World News Network

New Delhi [India], September 27 (ANI): Elections for Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) got underway on Friday following the Delhi High Court’s decision to allow the university to conduct elections.
Voting will be held from 8.30 am to 1 pm for morning shift students, while for the evening shift, it will be held from 3 pm to 7.30 pm.
On Thursday, Delhi High Court allowed Delhi University (DU) to continue with the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections but has imposed a crucial condition–barring the university from counting votes until it satisfies the court that all posters, hoardings, graffiti, and other campaign-related materials have been removed and public property has been restored.
Counting was scheduled to be held on Saturday.
The court has also directed that EVMs and ballot boxes must be safely stored until further orders are issued.
Appealing students to participate in elections, NSUI national president Varun Choudhary expressed confidence in winning four central panel seats in the DUSU.
“Voting for DUSU elections is being held today. We can see that students are worried about paper leaks and fee hikes. NSUI is going to win all four seats today. DU students are going to vote for the NSUI panel…I appeal to all students to participate in elections in large numbers… I think that counting should be held tomorrow after polling today. Earlier too, we raised questions on DU administration. Who would keep the strong secure? Where would ballot papers be secured? “The court should ensure this too.” NSUI national president Varun Choudhary said.

Meanwhile, ABVP National General Secretary Yagywalkya Shukla accused the NSUI cadre of indulging hooliganism in few campuses of Delhi University.

“Good news in the favour of ABVP is coming in from all campuses. Hooliganism by NSUI is going on at a few campuses and booth capture attempts are being made. NSUI is dejected, so they are indulging in hooliganism,” ABVP General Secretary Shukla said.
In the 2023 election, the ABVP had won three out of the four central panel seats, including the presidential post. Tushar Dedha of the ABVP was elected president, while NSUI’s Abhi Dahiya, the only NSUI winner, was chosen vice president of the Students’ Union. (ANI)
