Bandipora (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], August 19 (ANI): The annual Chota Amarnath Yatra, also known as the Maha-Dhyaneshwar Yatra, begins today in Bandipora, Jammu and Kashmir. This significant pilgrimage takes place in the North Kashmir region and is scheduled to commence today.
Maha Daneshwar temple, affectionately known as “Chhota Amarnath” lies within the dense forests of Dardpora Village where a naturally formed ice lingam, showered by delicate water droplets from above, graces the sacred site.
Traditionally observed on ‘Sharvani Purnima,’ the yatra involves not only paying homage at the Maha Dnyaneshwar temple near the cave but also navigating the area’s challenging terrains.
The Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Manzoor Ahmad Qadri flagged off the procession of devoted pilgrims along with Senior Superintendent of Police Bandipora Lakshay Sharma, to Chota Amarnath yatra who have gathered from various corners to seek blessings and embark on the sacred.
100 devotees will commence their journey from the Sharda temple in Kaloosa village. Pilgrimage plays a vital role in fostering peace and harmony, drawing visitors from various regions, including those new to Bandipora, said Opender Krishna Koul, coordinator of Maha Dhyaneshwar yatra.
He further said that they face existing infrastructure challenges but are working diligently to boost tourism and awareness.
“We are including trekking and cultural experiences to appeal to a broad audience.” The event will continue to evolve, aiming to attract both locals and tourists, with plans to enhance its scope and visibility, he said. (ANI)
