Pune (Maharashtra) [India], July 25 (ANI): Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday visited flood-affected areas in Ekta Nagar and Vitthal Nagar of Pune city to take stock of the situation.
He was seen addressing the issues of the public in the region and constantly monitoring the situation.
After his visit, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said, “There was never such an issue of waterlogging or flooding here in these areas but we don’t know why it happened this time. We will talk to the locals and ask what they have to say about it. I spoke to them. We will speak to the technical team on this issue on what can be done next and take a further decision. For records and observations, the collector of the city, the commissioner of police and one official from the revenue department and the municipal corporation will come and do the needful.”
Meanwhile, amid the heavy rain in Pune, the District Fire Brigade on Thursday rescued 70 people who had been stranded in the flood waters in the Nimbjanagar area of the city following heavy downpours.
The officials of the Pune Fire Brigade were conducting rescue and relief work in the city that had been submerged in above-knee-level rainwater after being pounded by heavy showers.
Meanwhile, as the state of Maharashtra faces the effects of continuous rainfall, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde took stock of the situation in the state on Thursday.
CM called the Raigad collector, told him to help all flood-affected people and assured him of all the help.
Traffic has been halted at Tamhini Ghat on the Raigad-Pune route following debris from a landslide as a result of the heavy rains. According to Raigad Police, “Traffic is stopped at Tamhini Ghat in the Raigad-Pune route due to a landslide. Traffic will be stopped for the next few hours until the debris is cleared.”
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a press release and said, “Isolated extremely heavy rainfall very likely over ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during July 25-27 and in Konkan & Goa on 25 and 26 July and Gujarat region on 25th July.”
IMD observed that exceptionally heavy rainfall occurred over ghat areas of Pune. In Tamini, the recorded rainfall was around 56 centimetres. (ANI)
