Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 29 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav instructed officials on Monday to inspect coaching institutes operating in basements across the state to ensure safety.
CM Yadav issued the instructions during a review meeting held at Mantralaya in Bhopal, following a recent accident in Delhi that claimed the lives of three students.
“The untimely death of three youths preparing for competitive exams due to waterlogging in the basement area in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi, is sad and painful. In view of the recent incident, instructions have been given to survey the coaching centres operating in basements in Madhya Pradesh,” CM Yadav said.
Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department, Nikunj Srivastava, stated, “In compliance with the instructions of CM Yadav, directives have been issued to examine the drainage systems and ensure safe electrical arrangements in case of waterlogging in coaching places running in basements in the state.”
Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) to the Madhya Pradesh CM, Rajesh Rajoura, mentioned that instructions have been issued to 16 Municipal Corporation Commissioners to inspect coaching institutes and other Dharamshalas operating in basements in their jurisdictions and submit a report.
Notably, three students died after the basement of a building housing a coaching centre in Delhi’s Old Rajendra Nagar was flooded following rains on Saturday evening. The Delhi Police arrested the owner and coordinator of the coaching centre in connection with the incident and charged them with culpable homicide, among other charges.
In a significant step, following the deaths of three Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) aspirants due to flooding at Rau’s IAS coaching institute in Delhi’s Old Rajendra Nagar, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has sealed the basements of 13 Civil Services Institutes.
The corporation’s crackdown on properties violating building bylaws came in response to the harrowing incident on Saturday evening, which triggered massive protests by students in the Old Rajendra Nagar area. (ANI)
