“Over eight districts in West Bengal suffered heavy damage due to floods”: Adhir Chowdhury – World News Network

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], September 25 (ANI): Amid the flood-like situation in West Bengal, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Wednesday said that over eight districts in the state have suffered heavy damage due to the flood situation, adding that lakhs of people are suffering in the state.
“8 to 9 districts in West Bengal have suffered heavy damage due to the flood situation here. I visited these districts and saw the conditions there. Lakhs of people are suffering. All this has happened because of DVC… The officials in the districts where floods occurred were already instructed to be careful because flood situations are going to arise. We want to know what is the truth?… So I thought it right to approach the High Court,” Chowdhury told ANI.
Earlier on Tuesday, Adhir Chowdhury visited a flood-affected area of Hooghly’s Jagatpur in West Bengal. After reviewing the situation, Chowdhury attacked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for not visiting flood-affected areas of West Bengal instead of celebrating her party leader’s bail in West Bengal’s Birbhum.
Meanwhile, West Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari met flood-affected people in Ghatal of Paschim Medinipur district.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday accused the BJP-led Central government of being the main reason behind flooding of lakhs of houses in West Bengal.
“In Jharkhand, as soon as it rains, we become worried because they release water to save themselves, which affects the entire Bengal region. The Ganga Action Plan, flood control, and DVC are all under the central government’s control, but due to their inaction, lakhs of homes are getting flooded,” she said.
Banerjee also claimed that more areas in West Bengal would be flooded in the coming days if the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) releases water.
“Two depressions have developed over the Bay of Bengal. The situation will worsen, if it continues to rain, especially if the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) releases more water from its dams,” she said.
Banerjee urged the Prime Minister to seriously consider her concerns and requested the release of funds for flood management efforts to help the affected population. (ANI)
