Pappu Yadav criticises Union Budget 2024: Calls out empty promises on jobs and migration for Bihar – World News Network

New Delhi [India], July 23 (ANI): Independent Member of Lok Sabha from Purnea, Bihar, Pappu Yadav, has criticised the announcements made for Bihar in the Union Budget 2024, questioning the promises of job creation and addressing migration issues from the state.
“They claim to create 4 crore jobs, but how many have been provided in the last 10 years? What about the migration from Bihar?” Yadav remarked.
Yadav also pointed out that, despite Bihar’s significant political influence, it did not receive a special package.
He criticised the state government’s stance, saying, “Now you are saying don’t give us special state status but a package; why are you begging? You have 30 MPs’ support.”
Highlighting the economic challenges faced by Bihar, Yadav noted, “Common people are Gods. Over two crore people are into farming. Forty thousand crores they spend on education outside. Why should they spend it in other states?”
He emphasised the need for special state status, criticising the lack of a central university announcement, and urged not to settle for a few expressways.
He also pointed out the absence of a special package for Bihar, despite the state’s substantial political support, and criticised the significant expenses incurred by Bihar residents for education outside the state.
Earlier today, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at boosting infrastructure and economic opportunities in Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. In her budget speech, Sitharaman announced support for the development of an industrial node at Gaya under the Amritsar-Kolkata industrial corridor and the construction of key road projects, including the Patna-Purnia Expressway, Buxar-Bhagalpur Expressway, and a two-lane bridge over the Ganga at Buxar, with a total investment of Rs 26,000 crore. Additionally, a new 2400 MW power plant at Pirpainti will be established with an investment of Rs 21,400 crore.
The Finance Minister also outlined plans for the development of new airports, medical colleges, and sports infrastructure in Bihar. An allocation of Rs 11,500 crore for flood control measures was also announced. Further, temple corridors, including the implementation of the Kashi Model in Bodh Gaya and special funds for the Rajgir Jain Temple site, were highlighted.
Andhra Pradesh was also a focus in the Union Budget, with Sitharaman announcing special financial support to address the state’s need for capital. She emphasized efforts to fulfil commitments under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, declaring an allocation of Rs 15,000 crore for the current fiscal year, with additional amounts to follow in future years.
These announcements come as part of the first Union Budget of the Modi 3.0 government and Sitharaman’s seventh consecutive budget presentation. The budget session of Parliament commenced on July 22 and will conclude on August 12. (ANI)
