Priority should be justice to victim, not politics on situation: Congress’ TS Singhdeo reacts to RG Kar rape-murder incident – World News Network

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], August 18 (ANI): Reacting to the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder incident, Congress leader TS Singhdeo on Sunday said that in such incidents the priority should be to ensure justice for the victim but unfortunately there is a politics on this situation.
On the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder incident, Congress leader TS Singhdeo said, “It is natural to expect a public reaction after such a tragic incident. In such incidents, it should be the priority to ensure justice is served to the victim and to take care of the family of the victim. Unfortunately, we do not hesitate to do politics in such incidents…If this goes on, then it will become a trend to ask the CM to resign due to such incidents rather than demanding an investigation into the matter…If there is any leniency in the investigation then it is objectionable…In Chhattisgarh, we included in our manifesto that there should be a separate provision to ensure the safety of lawyers, journalists and doctors…”
Earlier in the day, targeting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the mother of the deceased doctor in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-death case said on Sunday that the police did not do a good job at all and the CM is trying to stop the protests.
She told ANI that the hospital officials first told her that her daughter had committed suicide.
“First we got a call from the hospital that your daughter is sick, then the call was disconnected. After that when I called and asked what happened, they told me to come to the hospital. When we called again, the (caller) identified himself as Assistant Super and said your daughter has committed suicide. She went to duty on Thursday, we got this call on Friday at 10:53 am. When we reached there, we were not allowed to see her, we were allowed to see her at 3 o’clock. Her pants were open, there was only one piece of cloth on her body. Her hand was broken, and blood was coming out of her eyes, and mouth. Just by looking at her, it seemed that someone had murdered her,” she said.
“I told them it is not suicide, it’s a murder. We worked so hard to make our daughter a doctor but she was murdered,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the rape and murder of a doctor in state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal.
A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will hear the case on August 20.
The body of the post-graduate trainee doctor was found in the RG Kar Hospital’s seminar room on August 9. The Kolkata Police arrested a civic volunteer the next day in this connection.
Calcutta High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the investigation, after expressing a lack of satisfaction with the Kolkata Police.
On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, which has led to nationwide strikes and civil societies and doctors across States protested against the incident and demanded severe punishment to the accused persons and sought safety and security for themselves.
