Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), September 1 (ANI): In an effort to curb counterfeiting of Indian stamp paper and stop ticket smuggling, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) and police arrested two people accused of counterfeiting and smuggling Indian stamp papers and Indian stamptickets, the authorities said on Sunday.
The two accused, identified as Nawab Arju (alias Lalu), a resident of Bihar, and Raju Kumar Yadav were arrested after UP ATS received intelligence that a syndicate of smuggling counterfeit Indian stamp papers from Delhi was operating in Uttar Pradesh. Further investigation revealed that the accused, along with his alleged associates, are planning to form an interstate syndicate for supplying counterfeit Indian stamp papers and tickets all over the country. According to the intelligence received by the police, it was found that the accused, Nawab Arju along with other associates, is going to be in Gorakhpur district to supply counterfeit stamp papers in various places. The Gorakhpur police had announced a reward of Rs 25 thousand on the accused.
After the information had been confirmed by the police and ATS, both the accused were arrested in Gorakhpur.
According to the Uttar Pradesh ATS, the accused has been jailed previously for smuggling counterfeit stamp paper. Moreover, the police said that the accused had FIRs on him relating to IPC sections of cheating, forgery, and counterfeiting.
The authorities had also seized various items from the accused. Among the items seized are counterfeit Indian stamp paper worth Rs 6 lakhs 94 thousand, counterfeit Indian stamp ticket worth Rs 72 thousand, three mobile phones and one four-wheeler.
According to the police, there are six other people allegedly involved in the syndicate. The other accused identified are Kamrudhin, Sahabzade, Aish Mohammad, Ravindra Dikshit, Nandlal Prasad, and Santosh Gupta. The UP ATS is on the active lookout for the remaining accused.
Further legal action against the arrested accused is being taken by Gorakhpur District Police. (ANI)
