Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], July 21 (ANI): On the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami planted a sapling with his mother under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign on Sunday.
Pushkar Singh Dhami said that a mother is the first guru for a person in life. In such a situation, it is no less than a good fortune to be a part of the plantation campaign in the name of Mother.
The tree plantation programme was organised on Sunday under the aegis of the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) on the vacant land on the banks of the Rispana River at Gangotri Vihar on Canal Road. Chief Minister Dhami planted a sapling in the name of his mother, Bishna Devi. His mother was also present at the event.
At the programme, Dhami said that on the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed to the countrymen to plant trees under the initiative ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ that has been taken up as a campaign in the state.
Dhami appealed to all the people of the state to plant a tree in the name of Mother this monsoon season. He also wished the people of the state on the occasion of Guru Purnima.
Chief Minister Dhami said that a massive tree plantation campaign is being run in the state from the Harela festival (July 16) to August 15.
Social organisations, people working in the field of the environment, and self-help groups have also been associated with this campaign. Tree plantation campaigns are also being run at the Gram Panchayat level in the state.
On this occasion, Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) Vice President Banshidhar Tiwari said that a park will be constructed in the coming days on the land where this plantation is being done. He said that in the initial phase, fencing will be done all around the land so that animals cannot harm the plants. Along with the construction of a walking track, such plants would be planted, which can also promote biodiversity here. On this occasion, the Vice President also planted a tree in the name of his mother, Savitri Devi. (ANI)
